Dirk Nowitzki was born 19 June 1978, and raised in Wuerzburg/ Germany.
In 1998, he was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks to play in the American professional basketball league, the NBA (Nationwide Basketball Association). He is considered to be one of the top basketball players in the world, was
chosen seven times as an NBA All Star, and led the Dallas Mavericks
to the Finals of the NBA Championships in 2006. As the first European
ever, he was named "most valuable player" (MVP) of the NBA for
the 2006-2007 season.
Dirk Nowitzki is also successful with the German national team. He won the bronze medal at the FIBA World Championship in 2002 and the silver medal at
the FIBA European Championship in 2005.
He is still very close to his native Germany, where his personal roots are and his family lives. With the Dirk Nowitzki Stiftung, he wants to give
children positive childhood experiences.
